Appalachian Regional Development Initiative Memorandum of Understanding

The Appalachian Regional Development Initiative (ARDI) is a partnership between the Appalachian Regional Commission and 13 federal agencies to energize economic development in the Appalachian Region. On November 12, 2010, the ARC federal co-chair and representatives of eight federal agencies signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the initiative that lays out an action plan to bolster interagency collaboration in strengthening and diversifying the Appalachian economy. (Five additional agencies have signed the MOU since that date.) The MOU outlines short-term goals to assist with immediate capacity needs in the Region as well as long-term goals that build new funding strategies for a variety of development projects in physical infrastructure, education, civic capacity, and health.
