In 2018, the River District across from the Oostanaula River in Rome, Georgia was designated as an Opportunity Zone to spur investment and economic development through tax incentives. Today, the River District is poised for development but does not have adequate infrastructure making this project crucial for meeting future development needs.
With ARC support, the City of Rome performed needed water infrastructure upgrades to improve water and sewer service for 40 existing businesses. The upgrades also helped support a proposed $15 million development plan to build a six-story mixed-use building including residential and commercial space. This will help the Rome Downtown Development Authority, the Rome-Floyd Chamber of Commerce, and surrounding property and business owners make the area shovel-ready for major development, attract capital, and create jobs.
