Update from the Appalachian Regional Commission

WASHINGTON, D.C., January 31, 2024—ARC Federal Co-Chair Gayle Manchin was discharged from a University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB) hospital this afternoon. She is now in West Virginia continuing to recover with support from her family. She is grateful for the outpouring of well wishes from partners throughout Appalachia and beyond, as well as the outstanding care provided by the UAB medical team. 

Guy Land, ARC congressional liaison, remains hospitalized at a UAB medical facility, and is continuing to receive excellent medical care.  

On Tuesday, January 30, ARC shared that Federal Co-Chair Manchin and Mr. Land were injured in Birmingham, AL, when a vehicle struck theirs while en route to an ARC grant workshop. Read the original statement.
